with other hardware?
I have used
previous versions of SoftWIRE in the past. What are the
advantages of SoftWIRE 6.0 compared to previous releases?
SoftWIRE 6.0 has the same feel,
ease-of-use and data acquisition controls you are familiar
with; however, it has been extensively expanded with
controls for Digital Signal Processing (20+ new controls
including FFT's), Finite Impulse Response Filters (10+ new
controls), Infinite Impulse Response Filters (20+ new
controls), Signal Generation (10+ new controls), Spectral
Measurements (8 new controls) and Windowing (10+ new
controls including Blackman, Hamming, Hanning and Chebyshev
windows). These powerful, popular controls are easily
implemented in your SoftWIRE projects to perform highly
complex signal analysis. No need to write complicated code -
just wire in a specific control for your needs!
With which MCC
data acquisition hardware products is SoftWIRE compatible?
SoftWIRE is compatible with all of
Measurement Computing data acquisition hardware, including
USB, Ethernet, ISA, PCI, PCMCIA, CB-COM and PC104 products.
This includes MCC's digital I/O, analogue I/O and
counter/timer product lines.
Do you have to
be a programmer to use SoftWIRE?
No, you do not. In fact, SoftWIRE
was designed specifically for those who don't have the time,
training or inclination to write code. SoftWIRE provides you
with a graphical and intuitive interface to Microsoft's
Visual Studio.NET, eliminating the need to hard code your
applications. If you know how to use a mouse, you can use
SoftWIRE to build powerful data acquisition applications in
minutes.
Are there runtime
licences or royalty fees for applications developed with
SoftWIRE?
Runtime licences are not required
for applications developed with SoftWIRE. You can deliver
your software to an unlimited customer base without
incurring any royalty fees.
Will the
SoftWIRE projects I built with Version 5.x work with Version
6?
Yes, they will. Projects built
with SoftWIRE's Version 5.x will work with Version 6.
Why would I choose
SoftWIRE over other DAQ application development
environments?
SoftWIRE is the perfect solution
for any data acquisition user who doesn't have the time,
training, or inclination to write code to create
applications. With SoftWIRE, you can create complex
applications in a matter of minutes simply by connecting
icon-based controls with wires in a flow chart diagram.
Because SoftWIRE is based on Visual Studio, however, you
also get the extensibility that Microsoft.NET offers.
With SoftWIRE 6.0, we have made things even easier for data
acquisition users. Its base of over 250 controls includes
over 100 powerful new controls for Digital Signal
Processing, Finite Impulse Response, Infinite Impulse
Response, Signal Generation, Spectral Measurements,
Windowing, Curve Fitting and Arrays.
We recognize, however, that SoftWIRE might not be the best
solution for everyone.
What are the
system requirements to run SoftWIRE?
The system requirements to run
SoftWIRE 6.0 are:
- PC with a Pentium-class processor; Pentium III, 650MHz
or higher recommended
- Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003 (SoftWIRE also works
with VB.NET and C#.NET)
- CD-ROM drive
- VGA or higher-resolution monitor; Super VGA recommended
- Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
- At least 50 Mbytes of free storage space (in addition to
that required by your Visual Studio .NET installation)
- Windows 2000/XP
I don't have MCC
hardware, but I like the the analysis and filtering controls
in SoftWIRE 6.0. Can I use SoftWIRE 6.0 with other hardware?
SoftWire 6.0 provides data
acquisition tools only for Measurement Computing hardware.
However, since SoftWIRE 6.0 is embedded in Microsoft's
Visual Studio 2003, you can write your own code in Visual
Basic.NET or C# to acquire data from another vendor's
hardware and import them into your SoftWIRE application.
Once you've imported the data, you can use any of SoftWIRE's
powerful signal analysis tools to manipulate them.
